Less is More

This week's card of the week is elegant in its simplicity -- a perfect example of less is more.

This simple card is not layered at all....rather the flower stamp is stamped in coordinating colours around the greeting. The greeting itself is a beautiful sentiment written in 2 fonts, a script and a print. The mix of script and print font makes for a very eye catching element in the card. Below is a close up.

Next time you are in a rush to make a card, why not go for simple? You'll be surprised just how fast an elegant card like this one can be created!

Shimmer Sheets

We have shimmer sheets in stock! These ultra cool mylar sheets work wonderfully in the Big Shot or Cuttlebug with dies or with any embossing folder. There are many colours to choose from. The cool, irridescent quality of some of these sheets lends a vibrant sheen to any project! Great for scrapbooking as well! Coffee and a Card

This week's coffee and a card project uses the Hero Arts Postage & Frame Stamp & Emboss set.

This set features a collage of international postmarks, with space for a message. Hero Arts and Sizzix are offering an embossing collection that perfectly coordinates with a new line of stamp designs. Each "Stamp & Emboss" pairs one Sizzix embossing folder with one premium Hero Arts cling background stamp.

A Great Bunch of Ladies!

As many of you know, every thursday from 10:30 - 12:30, we have coffee and a card at the store. For just $2 you get to make a card and enjoy some Starbucks coffee. Each week we make a different card. We have had so much fun doing this once a week and we have a fun bunch of ladies who have started to attend this every Thursday!

This was taken last week, just before the end of our session. Each week promises to be a couple of hours of fun and creativity -- if you haven't yet stopped in to join us, please do! You will be glad that you did.

Be My Valentine

Okay, have you put away your tree yet?? We sure hope so!! January is almost half over and then of course, comes February. And Valentine's day. We have lots of Valentine stamps in the store so that you will be ready to create that special card for that special someone in your life.

Here is a sample of a quick and simple card using heart punches and glitter. Simply punch out the hearts using different coloured cardstock and then add glitter on top of each one for that extra bling factor. The cool thing about this card is it uses unconventional Valentine colours. There's lots more samples in the store to inspire you so if you have a chance, do come in and say hello.

On another note, did you guys know that this year is a leap year?? Yes, if you were born on February 29, you will most definitely be celebrating a birthday on your actual birthdate this year! Happy birthday to all the leap year babies!

Card of the Week

This week's card is bright and cheerful and features something we all love.....ice cream!

The ice cream image is from a doodlebug stamp set. The ruffled ribbon adds a nice touch and is very easy to do!

It's very easy to do the ribbon. Using sookwang double sided tape, start by placing a strip of tape on the edge of the card as per below.

Adhere your ribbon on the card where the double sided tape is and then add another small strip of tape on top of the tape as per below.

Pull the ribbon back over the double sided tape so it forms a ruffle then add more tape underneath the ribbon per below.

Adhere the ribbon to the tape on the bottom and then add more tape on top of the ribbon per below.

Continue this process by layering the ruffles using double sided tape. You can add as many ruffles as you want!

It's that time of year again! If you haven't started yet it's not to late to start your Christmas cards!

If you need a little motivation we have a couple options for you! First, the Elves at I'm Impressed having been working overtime to provide you beautiful samples to inspire you stop by any time.

Elf Eleonor has the eggnog out for Coffee and a Card this Thursday. She'll be creating a little Christmas magic from 10:30 to 12:30. Drop by anytime, sit down have a coffee and make a card only $2.

Saturday is Stamp Club! For a $5 drop in fee you can join the ladies at the False Creek Community Center from 9:30 to 11:30. One of the members will be demoing simple background techniques. Please bring the following if you wish to get "hands-on":

Cardstock
Glossy cardstock
Distress Ink pads or other dye ink pads (2 or 3)
Chalk ink pads (3 co-ordinating colours)
Metallic ink pad (complementary to chalk pad colours)
Clear drying glue
Blending tool or sponge
Rubbing alcohol in spray bottle
Cling film/plastic wrap (about a 6” long piece width of roll)

Stamp Club!

We want to remind you that the Stamp Club will be meeting again this month. For this month, it will be on Saturday, October 29 from 9:30 - 11 AM at the False Creek Community Centre. You are welcome to drop by to trade stamping ideas and to have a great time! The drop in fee is $5. There is a card swap every meeting if you'd like to partake bring 10 cards with you.

This month Eleonor will be showing everyone some projects using goldleaf and the new design adhesives. We'll also play with glitter and one of the new Hero Arts Stamp and Die sets. The only thing you need to bring to class is a sponge dauber or what you have on hand to distress paper with ink. Aside from that, we'll have everthing there for you! However, Eleonor did say that if you want to bring her a cookie, you may!

It's a rainy last Wednesday of October here. It's wet and cold out, so we thought for the card of the week we'd send you some cheer in the way of this whimsical flower card! This is done using Hero Art's Playful Flowers & Butterflies Stamp and Die set.

To "ground" the flower, we simply took a paintbrush and did a swoosh of green colour underneath the flower using some Peeled Paint distress ink. Dance!

A very popular saying goes like this, "You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, love like you'll never be hurt, sing like there's nobody listening and live like it's heave on earth." Isn't that a fabulous saying? We think so, and so it inspired this card.

Simple and elegant, this card features a lone ballet dancer, dancing en pointe. We didn't overdo the embellishments. The beauty and grace of the dancer takes center stage. We simply coloured her in with Copics, painted some Distress Tea Dye ink underneath her to ground her and added 3 litle gems on the side. Finished. Simple and Perfect. Here's a close up:

You can purchase a kit to create this card. The kit will include everything you need to make the card 6 times -- all you need to do is colour in the images and glue the pieces together. Hope you like it.

Like Crystals?

Our neighbour in the market, situated just outside the Kid's Market is the Crystal Ark.

This store is full of polished stones, crystals and jewelery. You can bag your own crystals for about $5 per small baggie! Inside the store is a cave full of stones and crystals that you can enter and choose your stones!

The staff is knowledgeable and the jewellry is one of a kind and unique. It's a really cool shop, but then again everything in Granville Island is cool!

Cards and Envelopes!

We have a big selection of prescored and prefolded cards with matching envelopes. There are many varieties to choose from, some are plain and some are patterned.

Having the pattern already on the card base makes cardmaking easier and faster. Here we've created a Christmas card using the snowflake patterned card from the above picture.

Quite often, the store phone will ring and it's a customer wondering where on earth we are on Granville Island?!!? Since the store underwent some changes and renovations, it's been a bit confusing for customers. Most of you already know that we are inside the Kid's Market, right alongside the post office. Contributing to the confusion was the fact there were no signs inside the market, in the hallway as you walk up to our store. But not anymore. Our wonderful Ceci has made us a sign so that as you walk up along the hall to our corner of the market, you see this:

This weeks card of the week is a burst of colour! Have a look.

You have to see the card in person to apprecaite how vibrant the colours are! We used Copic markers to colour in the flowers which are by Hero Arts. The flower centers were then embellished with glossy accents and a bit of glitter. Here's a closeup:

Edible Canada

Edible Canada recently opened their doors right here on Granville Island. This new location is complete with a retail store, a demonstration kitchen and a bistro and take out window. Boasting tasty local cuisine from the hardworking producers and farmers of our province, this new spot is definitely worth a visit. We couldn't resist and went to try their famous hash browns with bacon aoili and ketchup. These sauces are all made on site and this ketchup may look like ketchup from a bottle, but being homemade, the flavours are not your typical Heinz variety. You'll have to try it yourself.....and you'll know what we mean.

Fireworks!

Have you heard about this product from Tsukineko? We have this in stock in many different colours.

This new product creates sparkly and shimmery effects when sprayed on both dark and light papers. The colours they come in complement the Memento inkpads. When dry, the spray is permanent and won't rub off. Best of all, they are water based, acid free and non toxic, so you can use them in your scrapbooks!

Echinacea Flower

We don't know about you, but for some reason we think this flower should have a prettier name than Echinacea. Don't you agree? But, that is indeed what it is supposed to be......or at least, it is the artist's rendition of what Echinacea looks like. Don't you think this cute bloom should have a pretty name?? We do! And that's why we're calling this card of the week the "Pretty Flower Card". Sounds so much better than Echinacea Card, don't you agree?

One of the best places to have a hot or cold drink while on the island is the Granville Island Tea Company.
Their tea selection is vast and varied and you will have many reasons to come back and try them all! One of our favourites is their matcha chai tea with a bit of fresh ginger. Delicious!

They also serve a variety of black and green teas as well as South African Roobios. The selection of cold teas have wonderful flavours like mango, lychee, market spice and hawaiian mango. Next time you're on the island, give these wonderful drinks a try!

This week's card is all about Birdie Love! This whimsical bird image is from Old Island Stamp Co. and features original artwork from artist Emily Hull. Aren't these birds adorable?

Time to Feed the Birds

One of the most fun things to do while visiting Granville Island is feeding the birds. Bird food can be purchased on site and all the ducks will gladly come and be your best friend for the day if you give them food.

Designs in a Flash

In a rush? These design transfer sheets will allow you to create a design on your card in a flash! The adhesive on each design is good for use with embossing powders, flock or glitter. The best thing about this product is it creates a design that looks like you took a while to make it....but in actuality it takes just a few seconds.

For this card we used the design adhesive sheet to transfer a floral design on Chocolate cardstock using peacock blue glitter. There are endless colour combinations and possibilities when working with glitter and cardstock and these transfers.

We want to remind you that the Stamp Club will be meeting again this month. For this month, it will be on Saturday, July 30 from 9:30 - 11 AM at the False Creek Community Centre. You are welcome to drop by to trade stamping ideas and to have a great time! The drop in fee is $5. There is a card swap every meeting if you'd like to partake bring 10 cards with you.

-cardstock, any colour bring lots make sure some of it is white
-any of your favourite Spellbinders or like dies that are interesting

-2 sided tape
-fast drying glue

This week's card of the week is elegant and simple. Sometimes less is more and nothing translates into elegance more than gold. This card features a focal point of gold embossing, done using our design adhesive transfers. All you need to do after applying the transfer is sprinkle on your gold embossing powder, heat with your heat tool and presto! Instant elegance.

The kit for this card will include all the cardstock you need to create 4 cards as well as a design transfer sheet and half back pearls.

On a sunny day you can spend an entire afternoon here! There are many little shops that feature wonderful silk scarves, one of a kind hats, not to mention the Granville Island Gallery and the Gallery of B.C. Ceramics. An interesting little shop is the Artisan Sake Maker where sake is made onsite. If you've never tried sake, this is the place to visit! Hello stamping friends! It's a beautiful sunny day here in Granville Island so what better way to finally welcome summer than with a flower card! I've got Goosebumps!

GooseBumps is a clear "texture" spray that allows you to add unique textures on almost any surface (think paper, canvas, acrylic, acetate and many other surfaces)! It's very difficult to capture this cool effect in a picture, so you absolutely must stop by and check it out. Simply spritz a coat over your finished project and watch the goosebumps rise! The more you spray, the thicker and more dramatic the effect (and the longer the drying time, so keep that in mind).

Tiny speckles, like the texture on a wall (spray fro approx. 12" from surface with a forceful spray)

Larger dots/specks, like rain drops (spray from approx 8-10" away and push slowly on the sprayer)

Laminated look, like plastic (spray much closer and repeat until covered - NOTE: this does take longer to dry)

A little inspiration now that the cherry blossoms are finally out in full glory. We've taken this lovely Penny Black image and stamped repeatedly on sage green card with Versamark to create this matching watermarked backed ground. It's one of those simple techniques that so effective. The image has been stamped in black on white card and coloured with Copics. For that little extra pearls were added to the center of the flowers.

Yes, it is spring! And we're going to get you in the mood, even with the unseasonable low temperatures. After stamping the flower image from Memory Box three times, the stems on this card are cut out of the white, it's a very quick effective technique. The bunny is coming! We used our punches to create our fuzzy friend from white card stock, added a white pom pom for his tail and mounted on some great spring coloured papers. Pretty in Pink! Isn't it amazing how one colour, that little touch of green, sets off this pink card. The flower has been stamped in Tuxedo Black from Memento and then coloured with Copic markers. Though it's hard to tell from this picture, the flower has been done twice and popped up. Pink and white card stock have been layered, along with a little pink and white gingham ribbon for that finishing touch.

It's the last Saturday of the month - that means Stamp Club! The
Stamp Club meets at the False Creek Community Centre on Granville
Island, the last Saturday of every month from 9:30 to 11:30. We
exchange cards and ideas, have demos and complete a few hands on
projects. There is a card swap every meeting. It is not mandatory but
if you'd like to participate in the swap please bring 10 similar
stamped projects with you. Everyone is welcome and there is a $5 drop
in fee.

This month Sonya is doing the demo this month and asks you to bring your basic kit and the following if you have it:

Perfect Pearls - three or four colours
Perfect Ink refresher - if you don't have don't worry, I apparently have a full bottle
Water mister
Brushes (for perfect pearls) and another for mixing/splattering/etc.
Card stock - white, black and coloured
Pigment ink - pick two or three colours that would match your perfect pearls
Black ink (should be part of your basic kit)
Versamark or other embossing pad - please make sure your pad is good and juicy
Scoring tool (ruler and bone folder/scor-pal/MS scoring tool/whatever turns your crank)
Craft sheet or newspaper
