Card of the Week

Using the Contempo Trees Set from DeNami we've created this great looking modern Christmas card.  If the mixed Merry Christmas sentiment looks familiar, it was used a couple of weeks ago, I think I mentioned then it is one of my favourites.

No Peeking

No Peeking! We've decorated this tree punch out with bling and fiber.
Cut out a few presents and used the same fiber as ribbon.  We then
stamped a 'rug' using an oval shadow stamp adding details with a
stylus on a cream card.  Added the tree and presents on top using
foam tape to give them depth.  Stamped the sentiment from Memory Box
in the corner.  This idea is simple to reproduce and wound make a

Card of the Week

Here's a contemporary Christmas card for a change of pace. Using one of my favourite, a mixed font 'Merry Christmas' stamp from DeNami Design and a small single poinsettia stamp from Magenta.  Although we couldn't resist using a little bling, what really makes this card are the handmade embellishments.  Using a paper trimmer,  shave thin pieces of metallic gold cardstock and simply curl them around a pencil.  The paper curls are adhered to the card then the poinsettias are foam taped on top to give them dimension.

Card of the Week

Ceci has done it again! The picture does not do justice to this card! She started with a beautiful tone aqua card, mounted a piece of the latest 'Crystalline' paper from Memorybox.  On a white panel she stamped the Peace Dove Collage, then used a Dreamweaver stencil and paste to add the swirl over top and covered it with Celedon glitter. The edges have been done with Distress Ink to echo the design of the paper.  Stunning!

Take it Up a Notch

Hi all!  It's Eleonor here.....as you all know, each Thursday from 11 -1 PM, you can come into the store for coffee and a card.  It only costs $2 to create a card and have a cup of java -- such a good deal for a wonderful cause.  The proceeds all go to the Canadian Mental Health Foundation.  The cards we make are fairly simple, but oh so elegant and wonderful -- but here I'll show you how you can take your card that you've made on Thursday and step it up a notch!  Here's the card we made last Thursday.
We made this card using the direct to rubber technique.  You simply colour in the parts of your stamps with your choice of tombow markers.  Here I've used Memory Box paper and pulled colours from the pattern to create a flow that is pleasing to the eye.  Easy, peasy right??  But wait.....have a look below.
See what a little bit of distressing on the edges can do?  I also added some flat back pearls in pink and then I popped up both the image and the sentiment. Just a little bit, and you get a WOW!  Here's a close up.
It's easy to add to the simplest of cards and end up with something with that much more depth and detail.  Try it next time.  If you are free this coming Thursday, I'll be showing you how to make another wonderful card and this time, we'll be using the scorebug!  Hope to see you on Thursday.

Card of the Week

Masculine cards are so hard to make but Ceci has come up with this beautiful sample using gel pens and water colour technique.  The card pops even more because she's cut the hills out of cardstock and added frosted glitter.

Card of the Week

We've got butchers twine in the store - the fancy crafting kind that comes in lots of fun colours.  SO,we're looking for excuses to use it.  How did this card come about?  Fleur explained an idea to Ceci. Ceci then made this card and then Eleonor photographed so I could share it with you.  Funny how the creative process comes about.  For the balloons she used an oval punch and the bear is from A Muse.  Send us pictures of your cards and pages with butchers twine - we'd love to see them.

Don't forget Coffee & A Card!

Yes, it's almost that time of the week again.  Come by on Thursday (and every thursday!) between 11 and 1 PM and for $2 you get to make a card and have coffee with Eleonor!  Have a look at what we made last week!
We used this set from Stampendous, stamped in black memento, then coloured with Copics.  We particularly love this set because the flower comes with 2 differenct centers and it's up to you which center you want to use.  It's super cool.  We also embellished the flower centers -- can you see?

To make this cool effect, we used Ranger's Enamel Accents.  This versatile product comes in a duo-pack of black and white.....great for snowman buttons, googlie eyes, and to create faux brads.

Come by and visit us this Thursday for coffee and a card!  You won't be disappointed.

Stamp Club

Stamp Club

It's the last Saturday of the month - that means Stamp Club!  This month Elizabeth will be showing us how to make three different flower embellishments. Eleonor said that if there's time she'll show us how to do a flower embellishment, too! The Stamp Club  meets at the False Creek Community Centre on Granville Island, the last Saturday of every month from 9:00 to 11:00. We exchange cards and ideas, have demos and complete a few hands on projects. There is a card swap every meeting. It is not mandatory but if you'd like to participate in the swap please bring 10 similar stamped projects with you. Everyone is welcome and there is a $5 drop in fee.

Supplies you need to bring --

bone folder
tweezers
scissors
2 sided tape or fast drying glue
ink pad, any type but in a shade that a rose would grow (to edge petals)
small piece of ribbon that coordinates with ink colour
a brad
a short candle and candle holder

If you want to mount the flowers on something, please bring a tag or small card otherwise you can just take your flower home. You might want to also bring a small plastic container to transport the damp flowers home.

If you don't have something on the list - it's okay we'll share.

Card of the Week

This cute little card is made with a Stampendous clear set.  The browns and yellow are far from traditional but make it perfect for either gender.   Our 'Welcome Baby' card starts on a brown card with the back ground image stamped repetitively in Rich Cocoa Memento to cover 3/5 of the card.  We've used Memento Bamboo Leaves to create the frame on beige cardstock and mounted it on sunflower yellow. Stamp the 'giraffe' and 'welcome baby' on the same sunflower yellow cardstock in the Rich Cocoa - colour giraffe, cut and mount images as shown. Yes, that's a staple on the 'welcome baby'.  Add a piece of matching ribbon to the brown card before mounting the giraffe panel and you're done!  Much faster then knitting baby booties!
